Mia Malezija


Mia Malezija, croatian soprano, started a classical solo singing study programe in 2006. with mezzosoprano Kristina Beck – Kukavčić in the Secondary music school Vatroslav Lisinski in Zagreb, Croatia. Moreover from 2008 to 2012, Ms Malezija has completed the university undergraduate double major study programme in Hungarian language and Literature and Phonetics at the University of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. She was twice awarded a grant for the scholarship for the Balassi Summer University Programme from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade: the Hungarian government scholarship for the Hungarian language summer school in Pécs and Erasmus scholarship in 2012 at the University of Pécs at the Faculty of Humanities.

However, the big desire to continue singing professionally has prevailed while her stay in Hungary. From 2012 to 2015 Ms Malezija has finished bachelor’s degree programme in Classical Music Performance - singing studies at the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts at the University of Pécs, Hungary. She also proceeded to master’s degree programme and was duly admitted to the degree of Master of Arts in Classical Singing – Opera Singer polishing her vocal technique with Hungarian soprano Ilona Tokody. In May 2017 she graduated playing the role of Romilda in Händel’s Serse Kodály Concert Center in Pécs Hungary. Recently she has also completed her second a master’s degree programme and has qualified as a Teacher of Music Performance (Classical Singing).

Her repertoire includes the variety of roles performed in professional productions and student productions: Rosabella – L'uccellino d'oro by R. Zandonai (2019, Associazione Amici dell'Opera, Rovereto, Italy), Die Erste Dame (2019, Labopéra Alsace, Colmar, France) Marcellina – Die Zauberflöte (2018, Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, Germany), Contessa – Le Nozze di Figaro, 2017, Servilia - La Clemenza di Tito, 2016 by W. A. Mozart, Micaela, Frasquita – Carmen, 2016 by G. Bizet, Euridice - Orfeo ed Euridice, 2015 by C. W. Gluck, Minerva - Orpheus in der Unterwelt, 2014 by J. Offenbach, Drusilla - L’incoronazione di Poppea, 2014 by Claudio Monteverdi (Institute of Music, Pécs, Hungary), Dorabella – Cosi fan Tutte, 2013 by W. A. Mozart at the National Theatre in Pécs within the program Tale opera for children.

Ms Malezija has also actively performed as a solo and a chamber musician forming various ensembles (duos, trios) mostly in Hungary and Croatia. She has performed at the Volim, volim, volim! young chamber musicians recital Zagreb, Christmas recital with Ensemble Glazbene staze, at the Intervox festival in Osijek, Croatia, music recitals Master and Disciples at the National Theatre of Pécs with soprano dr. Marianna Váradi assistant professor of the Faculty of Music and colleagues. She also performed sacral music recital mostly with organ (music evenings St. Martin Church – Tourist Association of the Community of Cres Island). She performed with her student colleagues in Trio Fantastico - voice, piano and horn in Baja, Hungary and with Trio voice, flute and piano in a several chamber music recitals in Hungary and also recitals Master and Disciples - South Transdanubian Regional Chamber Music Series: Barcs, Tamási, Balatonföldvár). She also formed MiÁgi voice and piano duo with pianist Ágnes Bajic. They have performed mostly Schubert, Mendelssohn and Schumann songs as well as Franz Liszt song's transcriptions at the Liszt Ferenc Society at the House of Arts and Literature in Pécs, Hungary.Mia Malezija took part in a few singing competition in Croatia (Boris Papandopulo National Competition for Young Musicians, 2017), Hungary (Simándy József Singing Competiton, 2015), Czech Republic, Austria (International Otto Edelmann Singing Competition, 2017) and France (52ème Concours International de Chant de Toulouse, France 2019) Serbia, and Montenegro (Bruna Špiler International Competiton of Solo Singers, 2011.) She has achieved one of the first prizes in opera category at the International singing competition Lav Mirski in Osijek, Croatia in 2015. She was also the total winner - Laureate of the International singing competition Vera Kovač Vitkai in Novi Sad, Serbia in 2015. In 2017 she was one of the finalists at the International Vocal Competition Jakub Pustina in the Czech Republic.

Ms Malezija has actively participated in numerous singing masterclasses in Croatia, Serbia, Germany, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic. She has worked with KS Edita Gruberová (Academia Vocalis Internationaler Meisterkurs für Gesang Lied und Oper, Wörgl, Austria 2019). Further she has worked with dr. Marianna Váradi, Edita Garčević Koželj (International Piano Voice Masterclass, Sopron, Hungary 2019), Marga Schiml (Junge Musiker Stiftung Meisterkurs, 2018), Jeanette Favaro Reuter (Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, Germany, 2018), Ilona Tokody and András Muskát (Music without borders International Music Course, Competition and Art Festival, Balassagyarmat, Hungary 2014 and Palais Palffy Masterclasses Vienna, Austria, 2016 and 2017), Gabriela Benačkova (Masterclass Spa Jachymov, 2016), Veronika Kincses (Professional week Masterclasses – Faculty of Music, Pécs, 2016), Xavier Sabata (Baroque Music Masterclass at the Hungarian State Opera, Budapest, 2015), Marijana Mijanović and Predrag Gosta (6th International Baroque Academy, Belgrade, Serbia, 2015), Gabriele Lechner (Stift Altenburger Musik Akademie, Altenburg, Austria, 2011), Dr. Scott McCoy (International Voice Seminar, Zagreb, Croatia, 2011), Dr. Larry Alan Smith (American music workshop, Zagreb, Croatia, 2010).
